Quarter 1 Language Arts

For one of our first quarter project, we were asked to design a quilt, from paper, based on our reading assignment. The guys read one book and the girls read another. The title of our book was “Our strange New Land”. We had to read a book in a day. In order to be able to do that, the book was divided into sections. Each girl in the class had to read a section of the book. Once each of our sections we read, we all shared what happened in our part of the book. Once we all gathered our information, we had to take the important parts of the book, draw them out on paper tile, and paste them to resemble a quilt.

The reason for this project was to teach us how to read a book in a day. At first it seemed like a lot of reading, but when we divided the book up between us it wasn’t that much. It was our first book in a day assignment. Another reason for this project was to help introduce our New World unit. It was one of the first assignments we did. I learned how to read a book in a day. I also learned how to pick only the important information from a book.

I would have learned better if I would have put more details into my work. I also would have learned better if I could have put more events onto the quilt. I would have learned differently if I wouldn’t have waited until the last minuet to do this project. If I would have spent more time on this project I could have gotten a higher grade then I did. I also could have asked for help with things I didn’t understand.
