Quarter 3 Technology

Activity

The activity for this quarter is our excel test. We took a like three excel test this quarter. I did really well on them. My grades on these test were in the high 90's. I didn't get a perfect score on them because there was always something the I was overlooking and missing on the test. But dispite the one mistake I made I did really good on them.

Purpose

The purpose of these test was to make sure we were learning what we need to in class. It also was to test how much we knew and understood how to use the excel program. We had to prove to our teacher that we were capable of using excel for graphs, tables, and charts.

Learned more/differently

I could have leared more/ differently if I would have taken more notes. I also could have learned more if I would have paid more attention in class. I thought that inknew everything there was to know about excel but there were a few things I didn't kno. But most things I did know. I just had to remember them. These test were a good way to help me rememeber them.

Goals

This activity relates to my goals for this quarter. It was really easy to do so I got a really good grade on it. It relates to my other goal of being organized. Excel is a good way to keep large amounts of imformation organized. I can make charts, graphs, and tables in excel to organise my schedlue and things.

Quarter 3 Math

Activity

The piece I chose to reflect on for this quarter is our Chapter 7 test. I did o.k on this test. I could have done better if I would hav taken my time. I could have avoided most of my careless error if I would have been more thorough in my checking. I knew how to work out the problems I just made a few careless errors.

Purpose

The purpose of this test was to test our knowledge of this unit. I did pretty good on this test, but i could have done better. I really studied for this test. The test was over precentages and decimals and things in the catagory. There were some things in this chapter I had difficulties understanding. But that just means that i had to study it even more. I think my studing paid off.

Learned

I learned a lot about percentages and how to calculate taxes and discounts. I had a hard time with discount and percentage the most. I also learned about porportions and how to solve them. I knew most of the the things in this lesson but I just needed some help on sum things. So overall I took a lot out if this chapter.

Learned More/Differently

I could have learned more/differently if we would have done some projects or somthing beside homework and quizes. Something more hands on would have been very beneficial. Since I learn better by working with my hands, I grasp the concept of thing better, I would have enjoyed something like a project. We haven't any kind of project in math all year. I think it would have been kind of fun to do one.

Goals

This does no relative to my goals this quarter.

My goals- 2

My second goal of the year was to be more organized. I was going to have a place for everything. And I was going to keep everything in its place. I have spirals so I wouldn't have to have loose papers all the time. I also had folder to keep my homework and project papers in so that I don't lose them. I was also going to use my planner everyday to write down and keep up with my assignments.

I kind of achieved my goal, but not quite. It's kind of half and half. I do have a place for everything. But I don't always keep it there. I do have my sprials and I do keep all of my notes and papers in them. I used my file folders for awhile but as the year is endeing I kind of stopped using them all of the time. I used my planner for about a month. But now I don't anymore. Mostly because my orignal planner was destroyed. Compared to last year and the years before. I'm getting better at being organized. But I still have alot of room for improvement.

My goals- 1

My first goal that I had in the beginning of the year was to get straight A's. So that when it was time for the NJHS people to be chosen, I would be one of them. And also for alot of personal reasons. I had to study really hard and be on top of my assignments at all times. I had to do really well on my test and quizes and projects. I also had to do all of my homework.

This year was really challenging. I didn't quiet achieve my goal but I did improve my grades. I got the On A Roll Award this year in the 3rd quarter. I worked really hard to improve my grades from the 2nd quarter. On A Roll was not quite what I was hopeing for. But I was close. I studied more and did almost all of my homework and I guess it payed off in the end. I could still study more though. So hopefully this quarter I can actually achieve my goal and get straight A's and get into the NJHS and be on the Honor Roll. I'm really trying.

Quarter 3 Science

Activity

We work on our science fair projects for about a month. My science fair project partner was Ehsan Rahman. We did an experiment with bottle rockets on how the fin shapes and nose cone shapes effect it's flight. First we had to do the experient, then write a report on it, then make a presentation board and present our information to the jugdes at the science fair. Our presentation went really well. We scored a 48 out of 50. And in the end, out of the whole 8th grade, our project came in 3rd place.

Purpose

The purpose of the science fair was to learn something new on our own while having fun. It also allowed us to show our creativity. We had trouble at first decideing and agreeing on a project to do. But when he sugessted doing something with bottle rockets we qucikly we both agreed and was on the right track. We both had alot of fun blasting our bottle rockets on my compound.

Learned

I learned a lot about aerodymanmics and things. It was sooo much fun. I also learned what type of fin shape is best for the flight if a bottle rocket. Along with that i learned which nose cone shape is best best for the flight of a bottle rocket as well. I also learn how to use trial and error when you run into a problem.

Learned More/Differently

There are many different ways I could have learned this differently, but I wouldn't want to do them. This project was the best, most fun project I have ever had.

Goals

This was a great project. I had a ton of fun. We got a really good grade on this project. And we also can in 3rd place in the science fair.

Quarter 3 Social Studies

Our unit for this section of of social studies class is the Westward Expansion. Our learning strategy for this was to pick an event that happened during the Westward Expansion, research it, write a formal report on it, and then get with a partner to create a board game that teaches people about our event. We were graded for each project separately. My partner for the board game was Faisal Tamimi. Our event was the Louisiana Purchase. The object of our game was a bit like the game of Sorry but with the twist of learning about the Louisiana Purchase.

The purpose of the research paper was to have us learn about out event. Before we could create our board game we had to become experts on our chosen event. After we acquired the necessary information needed on the Louisiana Purchase, Bob and I partnered up and made a board game. The purpose of the board game was to teach other people about our event. While playing our game we had hoped you could learn different information about the Louisiana Purchase. To test you on what you learned, at the end of our game you had to answer a quiz question in order to win the game.

By doing the project I learned many things about the Louisiana Purchase. I learned about how significant this event was to the United States. It was the largest land purchase made by the US. I also learned that the land was originally owned by the French. The US bought it from Napoleon Bonaparte. I also learned about many of the major role players that took part in this event. People such as Napoleon, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, etc.

I could have learned more/differently if I would have done the project by myself. I know it would have made more work for me. But, if I would have been done the project myself I wouldn’t have had to worry about anyone getting the work done but me. My grade wouldn’t have been in anyone else’s hand but mine. I also could have learned more/differently if we would have had a little bit more time to turn in the project. If we would have had a bit more time I wouldn’t have had to rush to get things done as much. If my partner didn’t rush as much our project could have been a lot better. So we are not quite sure of how well we did on this project.

Quarter 1 and 2 Physical Education

Activity

In most of first quarter and practically all of the second quarter, in our P.E class we played soccer. We would go to the soccer field in the front of the campus to play after we ran 3 or 4 laps around the Joffery’s/ British school/ High school area. But when we would play it wasn’t like we were playing real soccer if was mostly just for fun. We didn’t really have any rules, except for handballs and out of bounds, but other than that we just had fun.

Purpose

The main purpose that was supposed to be for this was to teach us how to play soccer. Yeah, we learned some about how to play, and the rules and things, but we most didn’t really start using the rues until soccer season came around. We still just played for fun without all the rules but we used more of the rules than we did in the beginning of the quarter.

Learned

When I started playing soccer I didn’t really have much of an appreciation for it, but after we started playing it EVERY Phys. Ed. class I kind of had to learn to like it or P.E would have been a drag. I started out playing defense but as I knew, I have absolutely no foot-eye coordination. So I started being goalie. I eventually got the hang of it and learned the rule to soccer and being goalie, and kind got pretty good at it. It became really fun. Learning how to be a good goalie during P.E class gave me the confidence to try-out for the soccer team. And luckily, unbelievably I made the A-Team. I did ok. But there is still a lot I have yet to learn about soccer.

How I could have learned better

I could have learned better if we would have been playing with some actual structure and with rule during our game in P.E class. That’s about it. All I can think of.

Relation to this year’s goals

Ummm, I’m actually not quite sure how playing soccer ties into my goals for the year. It doesn’t really have anything to do with me being organized. But I guess it was fun, and helped me to easily get a good grade in this class. So, ya, I guess it does have a little to do with one of my goals for the year.
